Government amends Flag Code of India to allow tri-colour to be flown day and night

The government has amended the Flag Code of India to allow the tricolour to be displayed in the open and on individual houses or buildings through day and night. The provision earlier allowed the flag, when displayed in the open, to be flown from sunrise to sunset as far as possible. Now, a member of the public, a private organisation or an educational institution is allowed to hoist the flag on all days and occasions, ceremonial or otherwise, consistent with dignity and honour of the national flag. The move comes ahead of 75th anniversary of Indian Independence.The Flag Code of India was earlier amended on December 30, 2021, allowing the use of polyester, apart from cotton, wool, silk and khadi for making hand-spun, hand-woven and machine-made flags. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon people to hoist the Tricolour or display it in their homes between 13th and 15th August.

Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh becomes first certified Har Ghar Jal district of the country

Only 36.54 percent of over one lakh households in Burhanpur had potable drinking water through tap connections at the time of the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission on 15th August 2019. Despite various disruptions and challenges in face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the consistent efforts by Panchayat representatives, Pani Samitis and district officials of Burhanpur have led to the provision of functional tap water connections to all its 1 lakh 1 thousand 905 rural households within a span of 34 months.

In USA, over 11,900 acres of land burnt and 3000 people evacuated due to wildfire near Yosemite National Park in California. A state of emergency has been declared in Mariposa County of California as a wildfire continues to rapidly spread. Firefighters are struggling to control it. The flames are being driven by hot, dry weather and drought conditions   California's Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement.

Chess Olympiad Torch Relay leaves Andaman

The Chess Olympiad Relay Torch which reached Port Blair was handed over to the Chief Secretary of the Isalnd Administration Jitendra Narain by Grand Master Nilotpal Das at a function held at CellularJail in Andaman. The Chief Secretary in turn handed over the Torch back to Grand Master Nilotpal Das and eminent chess player R Kasthuri Bhai. 1st Khelo India Fencing Women’s League to start from Monday in New Delhi

The 1st Khelo India Fencing Women’s League will start from Monday at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry said, the first-of-its-kind national fencing competition for women will take place until 29th of this month. It will be held in over three phases. A total of one crore 54 lakh has been sanctioned by the Sports Authority of India over the conduct of the league. The prize money for each phase has been earmarked at over 17 Lakh rupees.

இஸ்ரேல் வெற்றிகரமாக ‛அயர்ன் பீம்' எனும் லேசர் ஆயுத அமைப்பை பரிசோதித்துள்ளது. இதனை உலகின் முதல் ஆற்றல் அடிப்படையிலான ஆயுத அமைப்பு என கூறியுள்ள இஸ்ரேல் பிரதமர், தாக்க வரும் ராக்கெட்டுகள், ட்ரோன்கள் மற்றும் பிற அச்சுறுத்தல்களை 90 சதவீதம் லேசர் கற்றைகள் மூலம் சுட்டு வீழ்த்த முடியும் என்றார்

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Culture Ministry to organize Rangoli Utsav ‘Umang' on National Girl Child Day on Jan 24

⦁ Culture Ministry will organize Rangoli Utsav ‘Umang' on National Girl Child Day tomorrow as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Participating teams will make Rangoli decorations at more than 50 special locations across the country.

⦁ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.

⦁ Twelve states and Union Territories and nine Central Ministries and departments will participate in the Republic Day Parade this year at Rajpath in New Delhi. Briefing media in New Delhi, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Defence Nampibou Marinmai said, the common theme of this year's tableaux are based on Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating the 75 years of Independence. He said, National Education Policy, Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik, Jal Jeewan Mission, 150 years of Sri Aurobindo, and 125 birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose are some of the themes of the tableaux of Ministries and Departments.

US and Japan agree to boost cooperation on pressing economic and security issues

⦁ US and Japan have agreed to boost cooperation on pressing economic and security issues, including China, North Korea’s missiles, and Russia’s threat to Ukraine. The decisions were taken in a virtual meeting between President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.  

⦁ Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Kishida said he and Biden had agreed to cooperate to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific, to work closely on China and the North Korean missile issue, and also to cooperate on Ukraine. He also said Japan would host a meeting of the Quad grouping of the United States, Japan, Australia, and India in the first half of this year with Biden visiting

India, Sri Lanka extend existing Science & Technology cooperation for three more years

⦁ India and Sri Lanka have extended the existing Science and Technology cooperation for three more years, with focus on new areas like waste-water technologies, sustainable agriculture, aerospace engineering, robotics and artificial intelligence. The decision was taken during the 5th Joint Committee meeting on Science and Technology Cooperation between India and Sri Lanka today

⦁ In Badminton, two-time Olympic medalist, P.V. Sindhu has won the Women's singles title at the Syed Modi International tournament. Sindhu defeated compatriot Malvika Bansod 21-13, 21-16 in the summit clash in Lucknow today that lasted for 35 minutes.

India emerges as largest exporters of cucumber, gherkins in the world

⦁ Representational PicIndia has emerged as the largest exporter of cucumber and gherkins in the world. India has exported cucumber and gherkins to the tune of over one lakh 23 thousand Metric Tonnes with a value of 114 million US dollar during April to October 2020-21.

⦁ Ministry of Commerce and Industry in a statement said that India has crossed  200 million US dollar mark of export of agricultural processed product- pickling cucumber, which is globally referred as gherkins or cornichons, in the last financial year.
