அண்மையில் அறிவிக்கப்பட்ட "நமது பாரம்பரியம்' என்ற திட்டத்தின் கீழ் கலாசார நல்லிணக்க மாநாடு விரைவில் நடத்தப்பட உள்ளது. இந்த மாநாட்டுக்கான ஏற்பாடுகளை மத்திய சிறுபான்மையினர் நலத்துறை அமைச்சர் முக்தார் அப்பாஸ் நக்வி தலைமையிலான குழுவினர் மேற்கொள்வர். மாநாட்டை தில்லியில் அடுத்த 3 மாதங்களுக்குள் நடத்துவது எனத் தீர்மானிக்கப்பட்டது. ஏப்ரல் மாத இறுதி அல்லது மே மாத முதல் வாரத்தில் மாநாடு நடைபெறும் எனத் தெரிகிறது. மேலும் இதுபோன்ற மாநாடுகளை, மும்பை, ஹைதராபாத், லக்னௌ, கொல்கத்தா, பெங்களூரு உள்ளிட்ட பிற இடங்களில் நடத்தவும் திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது என்று அந்த வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்தன.

‘லிப்ஸ்டிக் அண்டர் மை புர்கா’ படத்துக்கு தடை

சர்வதேச அளவில் விருதுகளை பெற்ற ‘லிப்ஸ்டிக் அண்டர் மை புர்கா’ என்ற பாலிவுட் படத்துக்கு மத்திய தணிக்கைக் குழு தடை விதித்துள்ளது. அலங்கிருதா ஸ்ரீவாஸ்தவா இயக்கத்தில் உருவாகியுள்ள ‘லிப்ஸ்டிக் அண்டர் மை புர்கா’ பாலிவுட் படம், கடந்த ஆண்டில் டோக்கியோ சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழாவில் ‘ஆசிய எழுச்சிப் படம்’ என்ற விருதையும், மும்பை திரைப்பட விழாவில் பாலின சமத்துவம் என்ற பெயரிலும் விருதுகளை பெற்றுள்ளது.

இந்தியாவில் ஒயிட் காலர் ஊழியர் களுக்கான முதல் தொழிற்சங்கமான கமர்சியல் எம்ப்ளாயீஸ் அசோசி யேஷன் சென்னையில் 71 ஆண்டு களுக்கு முன்பு இதே நாளில்தான் தொடங்கப்பட்டது. சென்னை மாகாணத்தின் வரலாற்றில் மறக்க முடியாத நாள் இன்று. 71 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு இதே நாளில்தான் (26.2.1946) இந்திய தொழிற்சங்க வரலாற்றில் முதல் முறையாக அலுவல் பணி ஊழியர்கள் (ஒயிட் காலர் ஒர்க் கர்ஸ்) உரிமை போராட்டத்தில் குதித்தனர். இந்த பேராட்டத்தின் விளைவாக எழுத்தர், கணக்காளர்கள் உள்ளிட்ட அலுவல் பணி ஊழியர்களுக்கான முதல் தொழிற்சங்கமான கமர்சியல் எம்ப்ளாயீஸ் அசோசியேஷன் (சிஇஏ) உருவானது. இரண்டாம் உலகப் போர் முடிவடைந்த சில நாட்களில் இந்த தொழிற்சங்கம் தொடங்கப்பட்டது.

PM Modi pays tribute to freedom activist Veer Savarkar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tributes to freedom activist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on his 51st death anniversary today. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, Veer Savarkar was a true patriot who envisioned a strong and developed India. Born in 1883, Savarkar set up the Abhinav Bharat Society, during his college days and preached a revolutionary struggle against the British. While on a scholarship to Britain, Savarkar organised students and advocated an armed struggle to throw the British out of India and created a network of like-minded individuals.Revolutionary Savarkar had spent many years in the cellular jail in the Andamans.

Odisha provides 4,376 acres of private land to ECoR for 5 railway projects

Odisha government has provided 4,376 acres of private land to the East Coast Railways for the execution of five big railway projects in the state. Informing this in State assembly, Commerce and transport minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi said that these new railway lines are Khurda Road-Bolangir, Paradip-Haridaspur, Angul-Sukinda, Talcher-Bimalagarh, and Sambalpur-Talcher double line.

India's envoy to US Sarna meets Trump in Oval Office

India's envoy to the United States, Navtej Sarna met US President Donald Trump yesterday. This was the first meeting of the top Indian diplomat with Mr Trump after he was sworn in as the US President last month. Since arriving in the US, Mr Sarna has met scores of top American lawmakers, engaged the community across the country and interacted with the think-tanks. Iran and Russia agree to jointly produce nuclear fuel

Iran's Atomic Energy Organization has said that Russia and Iran have reached an agreement to jointly produce nuclear fuel. The Head of the Organisation Ali Akbar Salehi told the semi-official news agency, ISNA that a preliminary agreement with Russia on the joint production of nuclear fuel was reached during the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the major world powers in 2015. 

World's first robot table tennis tutor sets Guinness record

The world's first robot table tennis tutor in Japan has set a new Guinness World Record for its uncanny ability of being able to play the game better than most humans. FORPHEUS (Future Omron Robotics Technology for Exploring Possibility of Harmonised Automation with Sinic Theoretics) has officially been given the Guinness title for its unique technological intelligence and educational capabilities.According to the project's lead developer Taku Oya, from Omron Corporation, the goal of FORPHEUS is to harmonise humans and robots, by way of teaching the game of table tennis to human players.

India wins all 3 medals at Asian Para-Road Cycling Championship

India has made a rousing start at the sixth Asian Para-Road Cycling Championship in Bahrain. On the opening day of the tournament at Bahrain today, India bagged all three medals in the 12.8 Kilometre Individual Time Trial.Abhishek from Chandigarh won the gold medal, Divij Shah from West Bengal won silver and Harinder Singh from BSF accounted for the bronze medal.

தமிழகத்தில் வறட்சியைச் சமாளிக்கவும், நீர்நிலைகளை புனரமைக்கவும் பண்டைய “குடிமராமத்து” திட்டத்தை முதல்வர் எடப்பாடி கே.பழனிசாமி அடுத்த மாதம் தொடங்கி வைக்கிறார். இத்திட்டத்தின் மூலம் நடப்பு நிதியாண்டில் 30 மாவட்டங்களில் ஆயிரத்து 159 பணிகள் ரூ.100 கோடியில் செயல்படுத்தப்படும் என்று அரசு அறிவித்துள்ளது.

Centre permits Tamil Nadu to increase number of workdays under MGNREGA

The Centre has accorded permission for increasing the number of workdays under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee scheme in Tamil Nadu from the existing 100 days to 150 days. A release from the state government in Chennai says the rise in workdays is aimed at helping rural labourers, who are staring at job loss, as the state is affected by severe drought. In Tamil Nadu, the rural job scheme is being implemented in 12,524 villages. This financial year, 33.43 man-days of employment have been generated so far under the scheme and Rs 4655 crore has been disbursed.

Over 5 crore Indians suffer from depression in 2015: WHO

A World Health Organisation (WHO) study said, that over five crore Indians have suffered from depression in year 2015. The WHO in its new global health estimates on depression for 2015 said, while over five crore Indians suffered from depression, over three crore others suffered from anxiety disorders. The report said, over two-thirds of global suicides were in low and middle-income countries like India in 2015. The WHO document said, that 322 million people are living with depression worldwide and nearly half of them live in South East Asian and Western Pacific region. The total estimated number of people living with depression increased by 18.4 per cent between 2005 and 2015.

634 drugs suspected to be non-compliant with ceiling price: NPPA

Six hundred and 34 drugs of various strengths produced by firms are suspected to be non-compliant with ceiling prices as notified by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA). In its notification, the regulator said that it has issued the list after analysing the market data of various medicines in December last year.The list of cases of suspected non-compliance of notified ceiling prices issued by NPPA included medicines manufactured by leading pharmaceutical firms in India.

Former Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang was today appointed as Finance Advisor to the state government in the rank of a cabinet minister. An official release said, Zeliang, appointed by the Governor P B Acharya, will receive the pay and allowances admissible to a cabinet minister.

Canteens to be opened under Antyodaya Anna Yojana in Haryana

Haryana Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board will open canteens under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana to provide food at affordable prices to construction workers and poor people. They will be provided food at heavily subsidised rates, breakfast for 5 rupees and full-coarse meal for 10 rupees per person right at their work place. The mobile vans will be deployed to make food available to the poor at labour chowks. This decision was taken at a meeting of the Labour Department held in Chandigarh yesterday

India to provide financial assistance to Bangladesh for development of Sylhet city

India has agreed to provide financial assistance to Bangladesh for sustainable development of Sylhet, a north-eastern Bangladeshi city. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Bangladesh's Economic Relations Division Additional Secretary Shah Md.

China names new officials to key economic posts

Chinese Government has replaced Commerce Minister and the head of its top economic planning body as part of a Cabinet reshuffle ahead of the national legislature's annual session. The Xinhua News Agency reported today that top trade representative Zhong Shan will now be the Minister of Commerce, while He Lifeng will take over the powerful National Development and Reform Commission.

Venezuela & Libya suspended from voting in UNGA

Venezuela and Libya have been suspended from voting in the UN General Assembly for the second time in two years because of millions of dollars in unpaid dues to the world body. The Assembly decided this week that six countries would lose their votes in the 2016-2017 session because they're over two years in arrears. Dues vary according to factors including national income.

Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo arrived in Sydney today on his first visit to Australia as his nation's leader. Improving trade and investment will be a key focus of Jokowi's two-day state visit with plans to finalize a free trade agreement this year.

India likely to be less affected by global economic shocks: IMF

The IMF has said that the Indian economy is in fairly good shape, and it is likely to be less affected than other emerging economies if there is a further shock to the global economy. Paul A Cashin, Assistant Director in the IMF's Asia & Pacific Department, and mission chief of India, said this is because India has an inward domestically demand-oriented economy. The International Monetary Fund had, earlier this week, in its annual report, forecast India's growth to slow to 6.6 per cent in the 2016-17 fiscal due to temporary disruptions caused by demonetisation. 

India to be fastest growing economy among G-20 nations: Moody's

International rating agency Moody's Investors Service has predicted that India will be the fastest growing economy among G-20 countries clocking a 7(point)1 per cent growth in year 2017. Moody also said, the continuing cyclical recovery in global economic activity with growth in G-20 countries picking up modestly to 3 per cent in 2017 and 2018 from 2.6 per cent in 2016. 

FDI inflow zooms 18 per cent to $46 billion in 2016: DIPP

Foreign direct investment in the country grew 18 per cent in 2016, to 46 billion dollars, according to data released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion. 

India win bronze in ISSF World Cup

Hosts India have opened their account with a Bronze medal in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. On Day One of competitions at the Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi today, Pooja Ghatkar overcame technical issues to clinch the women’s 10 metre air rifle bronze. The former Asian champion shot 228.8 in the final to finish third.

ரூபாய் நோட்டு வாபஸ் நடவடிக்கையால் 2016-17-ஆம் நிதியாண்டில் இந்திய பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி 6.6 சதவீதமாகக் குறையும் என்று சர்வதேச செலாவணி நிதியம் (ஐஎம்எஃப்) கணித்துள்ளது. எனினும், இது தாற்காலிகமான பின்னடவுதான் என்றும், சரக்கு-சேவை வரி (ஜிஎஸ்டி) அமல்படுத்தப்பட்டால் அடுத்த சில ஆண்டுகளில் இந்தியாவின் பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி 8 சதவீதம் அளவுக்கு அதிகரிக்கும் என்றும் ஐஎம்எஃப் கூறியுள்ளது.

CBEC launches mobile app for GST

Central Board of Excise and Customs today launched a mobile application for Goods and Services Tax (GST) to inform the taxpayers of the latest updates on GST. Launching the App, in New Delhi, Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar said, through this app, taxpayers can readily access a host of GST information such as migration to GST-Approach and guidelines for migration, model GST Law, IGST Law and GST compensation law. 

Govt decides to issue Sovereign Gold Bonds 2016-17-Series IV

Government has decided to issue Sovereign Gold Bonds 2016-17-Series IV. In a statement, Finance Ministry said that applications for the bonds will be accepted from 27th of this month to the 3rd of March. The bonds will be issued on 17th of next month. These will be sold through banks, Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited, designated post offices and recognised stock exchanges.

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat visits Southern Command hqs in Pune

Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat visited the headquarters of Southern Command in Pune yesterday. This was General Rawat's first visit to the Headquarters of Southern Command, the largest geographical formation of the Indian Army, after taking charge in December.

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar today arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit during which he will meet top Bangladeshi leadership and hold discussions on bilateral issues, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's proposed India visit.

Talk with India 'positive', China says

China said today that the recent strategic dialogue with India is of positive significance to ties as extensive agreements were reached. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang told a media briefing in Beijing that the dialogue has reached the goal as expected and is of positive significance to the bilateral relations. India has welcomed an initiative by UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to create a new office for counter-terrorism and stressed the nations should not allow turf battles to hobble the proposal. India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin said that no single nation alone can tackle this menace decisively. He was speaking during an informal meeting on strengthening of the capability of the UN system in implementing Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. 

Astronomers discover 7 new Earth-sized exoplanets that may sustain life

Astronomers have discovered for the first time seven new Earth-sized exoplanets that may be able to sustain life. Lead researcher Michael Gillon, with the University of Liege in Belgium said, these exoplanets are orbiting a star 39 light years away. He said, they could have some liquid water and maybe life. Astronomers have found other seven-planet systems before, but this is the first time to have so many Earth-sized worlds. All of them orbit at the right distance to possibly have liquid water somewhere on their surfaces. The planets closely circle a dwarf star named Trappist-1, which at 39 light years away makes the system a prime candidate to search for signs of life. Only marginally larger than Jupiter, the star shines with a feeble light about 2,000 times fainter than Earth's sun.

Indians largest group of foreign skilled workers in UK

Indians are the largest group of skilled workers granted visas to live and work in the UK last year at 57 per cent. According to official figures released in London today, Indians accounted for 53,575 skilled work visas granted in 2016, and US nationals are the second largest group at 9,348.

India's GDP projected to slow to 6.6% due to demonetisation Strains: IMF

India's growth is projected to slow to 6(point)6 per cent in 2016-17 fiscal due to the strains that have emerged in the economy as a result of temporary disruptions caused by demonetisation. The post-November 8, 2016 cash shortages and payment disruptions caused by the currency exchange initiative have undermined consumption and business activity, posing a new challenge to sustaining the growth momentum. India's economy grew at 7.6 per cent in 2015-16.

Indian digital payments market to reach $500 bn by 2020

Digital payments industry in India is expected to reach 500 billion US dollars by 2020, with over 50 per cent of Internet users in the country will be using it by then. The report by global telecom body GSM Association and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) said that more than 50 per cent of India's Internet users will use digital payments by 2020, when the size of digital payments industry in the country will be 500 billion dollars. In India, BCG estimates that digital technologies will influence up to 45 per cent of all retail sales by 2025. The report counts government's plans to build 100 smart cities across the country and 'Digital India', which aims to increase the optical fibre network to thousands of villages where two-thirds of the population lives.

John-John Dohmen, Naomi Van named best hockey players of 2016

Belgium's John-John Dohmen and Netherlands' Naomi Van were named as male and female Hockey Federation's Player of the Year award. In an event hosted in Chandigarh today, the Olympic silver medallists Dohmen and Naomi were handed these awards. Great Britain's Olympic gold medallist Maddie Hinch won the Hockey Stars 2016 female Goalkeeper of the Year award.

1st Gramin Khel Mahotsav to be held next month in Delhi: Vijay Goel

Sports Minister Vijay Goel today announced that 1st Gramin Khel Mahotsav will be held from 25th to 31st of next month in New Delhi. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Mr Goel said the games will be held in five sports disciplines Athletics, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volley Ball and Wrestling. He said a need has been felt to deepen the sports culture among the rural youth.

Sports Minister felicitates Indian blind cricket team

Sports Minister Vijay Goel today felicitated Indian blind cricket team which recently won the T-20 World Championship. Mr Goel felicitated team captain Ajay Reddy and other members with momentos. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Goel said, the Ministry will give 20 lakh rupees to the team.
