India committed to maintaining peace & tranquility at border with China: MEA
India and China attach utmost importance to maintenance of peace and tranquility in all areas of India-China border regions. Responding to media queries on developments on the Line of Actual Control, External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Anurag Srivastava said, the India-China border has largely been peaceful. He said, occasionally however on account of difference in perception of the alignment of LAC, situations have arisen on the ground that could have been avoided.

Dr Harsh Vardhan dedicates COBAS-6800 testing machine to the nation
Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan today dedicated to the nation the COBAS-6800 Testing Machine for COVID-19 cases. This is the first such testing machine that has been procured by the government for testing of COVID-19 cases and is installed at the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC. Government announces affordable rental accommodation for migrants & urban poor
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveils second set of relief measures under Aatma-Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. For migrants and the urban poor, government announced affordable rental accommodation. Government funded housing in cities will be converted into Affordable Rental Housing Complexes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while both Government and Private bodies will be incentivized to develop Affordable Rental Housing Complexes on their land. Under the MUDRA scheme, small businesses will be revamped through the 1,500 crore rupees interest subvention scheme. Government will also provide interest subvention of two per cent for the next 12 months for beneficiaries of the MUDRA-Shishu loan Yojana.
- In a major relief to middle income families, government also extended the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) up to March next year. This move is seen to benefit around 2.5 lakh families and will also lead to an investment of over 70 thousand crore in the housing sector. Investment in the housing sector arising out of this decision will further help in creation of jobs and will alos stimulate demand for steel, cement, transport, and other construction material.
- Ms. Sitharaman also enumerated series of relief packages introduced by the government for the rural India, since the onset of COVID-19 in the country. She informed that government has sanctioned 25 lakh new Kisan Credit Cards with a loan limit of 25 thousand crore rupees. She also made a mention of the hike in the Average wage rate of the labourers to 202 rupees from 182 in last Financial Year. She informed that special drive has been undertaken to enroll returning migrants and provide them jobs under the MNREGA.

Concessional credit boost of Rs 2 lakh cr announced for 2.5 cr farmers through Kisan Credit Cards
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announces two lakh crore concessional credit boost through the Kisan Credit Card Special drive benefiting over 2.5 crore farmers in the country. Fishermen and animal husbandry farmers will also be included in this special drive which will enable the farmers to gain access to the institutional credit at concessional interest rates.
PM CARES Fund trust allocates Rs 3,100 crore: COVID-19
PM CARES (Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations) Fund Trust today decided to allocate Rs. 3100 Crore for fight against COVID-19. Out of Rs 3100 crore, a sum of approximately Rs.2000 crore will be earmarked for the purchase of ventilators, Rs. 1000 crores will be used for care of migrant labourers and Rs.100 crores will be given to support vaccine development.
International Tourist numbers could fall 60-80% in 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a 22% fall in international tourist arrivals during the first quarter of 2020, the latest data from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) shows. According to the United Nations specialized agency, the crisis could lead to an annual decline of between 60% and 80% when compared with 2019 figures. This places millions of livelihoods at risk and threatens to roll back progress made in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Forest loss rate globally declined from 2015 to 2020: FRA 2020
The rate of forest loss in 2015-2020 declined to an estimated 10 million hectares (mha), down from 12 million hectares (mha) in 2010-2015, according to the Global Forest Resources Assessment 2020 (FRA 2020). The FRA 2020 was released by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on May 13, 2020.
