Karnataka to launch State Health Register, a first-of-its-kind in India
The Karnataka government on Wednesday said it would soon launch a project to maintain the health database of all its citizens by having a "State Health Register." A first of its kind initiative, the State Health Register will be a robust and standardized health repository of all the citizens, an official release said.

The meeting reviewed the current global and domestic macro-economic situation, financial stability and vulnerabilities issues, major issues likely to be faced by banks and other financial institutions as also regulatory and policy responses, Liquidity / Solvency of NBFCs/HFCs/MFIs and other related issues. Besides, market volatility, domestic resource mobilisation and capital flows issues were also discussed by the Council.
Indian economy to contract by 5% in FY21 by Fitch’s GEO and Crisil
In the wake of coronavirus pandemic, rating agency Fitch Ratings has made further cuts to its world GDP forecasts in its latest Global Economic Outlook (GEO), released on Tuesday. The biggest forecast cut was for India where Fitch now anticipates a 5% decline in FY21 in contrast to an earlier forecast of growth of 0.8%. The sharp cut in India forecast was necessitated due to slump in economic activities and very stringent lockdown policy, the rating agency said.
Infosys ties-up with Zurich-based Avaloq for digital wealth management services
Infosys announced a strategic partnership with Zurich-based software company Avaloq on Tuesday to provide end-to-end (e2e) wealth management capabilities through digital platforms. AI virtual assistant PAi launched National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI)
National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) said that it has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) based chatbot, PAi, to create awareness around its products like FASTag, RuPay, UPI, AePS on a real time basis. This is yet another NPCI’s initiative to improve digital financial inclusion in India. The AI virtual assistant, PAi is available round the clock helping users with access to accurate information on NPCI products. Customers can ask their queries in English and Hindi, via text or voice on the websites of NPCI, RuPay, and UPI Chalega. Through PAi, users get verified automated responses to their queries on all NPCI’s products. PAi would also be accessible to global RuPay Cardholders as well.
Western Naval Command sets up Ultraviolet sanitisation Bay at the Naval Dockyard
The Indian Navy said an ultraviolet (UV) sanitisation bay to decontaminate things like tools, masks and clothes was set up at the naval dockyard in Mumbai, which is a part of the Western Naval Command. "Naval Dockyard (Mumbai) has manufactured a UV sanitisation bay to meet this emerging requirement," the press release by the Indian Navy said. "The UV bay will be utilised for decontamination of tools, clothes and other miscellaneous items, to control spread of the coronavirus. The challenging task required ingenuity to convert a large common room into a UV bay by fabrication of aluminum sheets electrical arrangements for UV-C lighting," it added.
NASA renames its WFIRST Telescope after ‘Mother of Hubble’ Nancy Grace Roman
NASA has renamed its Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST), a next-generation space telescope set to launch in 2025, in honor of Nancy Grace Roman, the US space agency''s first chief astronomer, who paved the way for space telescopes focused on the broader universe. The newly named Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope -- or Roman Space Telescope, for short -- will investigate long-standing astronomical mysteries, such as the force behind the universe''s expansion, and search for distant planets beyond our solar system, NASA said on Wednesday. Considered the "mother" of NASA''s Hubble Space Telescope, which launched 30 years ago, Roman tirelessly advocated for new tools that would allow scientists to study the broader universe from space.
Kochi Startup Devaditek Innovations develops decontamination device ‘Lumos’ to check COVID-19 spread
A Kochi-based startup has launched a multipurpose decontamination device called ‘Lumos’ that can sanitise items ranging from N95 masks to vegetables, thereby keeping a check on the spread of Covid-19. Devaditek Innovations, a startup incubated by Maker Village, has already begun the production of Lumos, and is getting ready to supply the device to various institutions including hospitals across the state. Though Lumos has been designed specifically to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, the certified UVC medical-grade disinfection system can kill an array of pathogens. These include SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, germs causing different types of influenza and MS2 bacteriophage, besides several strains of bacteria and fungus.
A new species of small freshwater fish “Puntius sanctus” discovered in Velankanni, Tamil Nadu
Velankanni in Tamil Nadu has thrown up a new species of small freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae. The silver-hued fish has been christened Puntius sanctus — ‘sanctus’ is Latin for holy — after the popular pilgrim town. The fish has been identified and named by Mathews Plamoottil, head of the Department of Zoology, BJM Government College, Chavara, in Kollam. His research was funded by the Science and Engineering Research Board of the Department of Science and Technology. Bioscience Research has published an article on the discovery.

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh launches ‘Rozgar Setu Yojana’ for skilled workers

Uttarakhand launches Mukhyamantri Swarozgar Yojana for returnee migrants
To retain the migrants who have returned to the state during the lockdown, Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the Mukhyamantri Swarozgar Yojana. Rawat instructed the officials that information about this scheme should be conveyed to every village so that the youth can avail of this scheme. “This scheme should be widely publicised through public representatives and district level officers so that the maximum number of villagers can take advantage of it. Under this scheme, the district magistrate should coordinate with the bankers so that the beneficiaries do not have any problem in taking loan,” said Rawat.
