GST Council to meet to break deadlock on jurisdiction over assessees
Goods and Services Tax, GST Council will meet in New Delhi today to break the deadlock over administrative control on assessees in the new tax regime. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said, the agenda for today's meeting will be completion of approval of CGST and IGST draft and discussion and resolution of cross empowerment law.

India to get Rafale fighter jets in 3-yr time: IAF chief
Indian Air Force chief Arup Raha said, India will get the first tranche of Rafale fighter jets from France in the next three years. Mr Arup Raha at a function in Kolkata yesterday said, within three years time India will have the first few Rafale aircraft delivered and within five and a half years we will have two full squadron of aircrafts in operation.

India's competence in IT-Software recognised globally: Arun Jaitley
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, India's competence in IT-Software is recognised globally and in recent times, software development has emerged as one of the most dynamic sectors. Speaking at Pre-Budget Consultative Meeting in New Delhi yesterday, with stakeholders from IT sector, Mr. Jaitley said, that the electronic market in India is one of the largest in the world and is expected to reach 400 billion dollar in 2020. 

Govt to soon launch helpline number 14444 to promote digital payments
A nationwide toll-free helpline number '14444' will be launched soon to educate people and provide support related to cashless mode of transactions. Nasscom President R Chandrashekar said government has sought the IT body's help in providing support on a mass scale to people. He said, Nasscom is providing call centre support to the project.
Water route between Delhi-Agra to be started soon: Nitin Gadkari
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said government is focusing on the development of water transport in a big way as it is the cheapest means of transportation. He said that a water route between Delhi to Agra will be started soon. Gadkari was said this today after laying foundation stone of several road projects at Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh. The minister has been pushing for the development of inter-state water transport and such a service has already been started between Varanasi and Malda. He also launched Rs 4,000 crore worth road connectivity projects in Agra. The projects included Rs 425 crore southern bypass road.

President Pranab Mukherjee turns 81 today
President Pranab Mukherjee turns 81 today. A number of programmes have been planned by the Rashtrapati Bhavan to celebrate his birthday that include launch of '100 Million for 100 Million' Campaign. The Campaign is with the objective to mobilise 100 million youth and children for 100 million underprivileged children in the world, to end child labour, child slavery, violence against children and promote the right of every child to be safe, free, and educated, over the next 5 years.

Defence Minister assures Mauritius of India's full support
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has assured Mauritius that India will continue to extend full support to it for training and capacity-building. Parrikar was addressing at the event of commissioning Indian-made fast patrol vessel for the coast guards at Port Louis in Mauritius today. Parrikar also handed over two Chetak helicopters to Mauritius government during the programme.

In-depth discussion on various issues held in India-China Think-Tanks Forum
An in-depth discussion on various issues were held, in the 'India-China Think-Tanks Forum' in New Delhi yesterday. The discussions were held on relations between India and China, strengthening strategic communication, promoting economic relations, and regional economic and security architecture. Strategic thinkers, economists, academics, and social scientists from both countries participated in the forum. The participants felt that the India-China relation is one of the important relations of the 21st century, agreeing that it could play a significant role in bringing economic development in Asia-Pacific region. 

Health Ministry asks states to operationalise digital payment in govt hospitals
The Health Ministry has asked states to take steps to operationalise digital payment facilities in government hospitals for patients' convenience. The Ministry, in an advisory issued today, said it is important that the government health facilities are fully geared up to receive user charges in a digital manner including through mobile transations. 

Incoming UN chief to take oath of office tomorrow (12.12.2016)
Incoming UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will take the oath of office tomorrow.During a formal ceremony at the General Assembly, Mr. Guterres will be sworn in before outlining in an address to all 193 UN member-states his plans to confront global crisis and reform the 71-year-old United Nations. He will take over from Ban Ki-moon on first of January. 

India needs to invest more in public healthcare: WHO
WHO says India needs to invest more in public healthcare and build a robust health delivery system in all aspects, including infrastructure and human resources, with special focus on rural areas. WHO Representative to India Henk Bekedam said though India has made enormous progress in the healthcare sector in recent past, still 60 million people are in poverty through paying healthcare bills because of the country's low investment in health, inadequate financial protection and high out-of-pocket expenditure.

Turkey declares day's mourning after Istanbul bombings
Turkey declared a one-day morning after twin blasts ripped through the heart of Istanbul killing 29 people, mainly police, and wounding 166. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim also ordered flags to fly at half mast after a car bombing near a football stadium followed by a suicide bombing at a nearby park.

Jharkhand economy to shift from cash-based to Cashless
The drive for cashless economy in Jharkhand is being carried out vigorously by the state government. This drive was started on 2nd of this month by state Chief Minister Raghubar Das from Nagri block of district Ranchi. The Mission is planned to get over by the end of this month by which at least one block in each of the 24 district would be covered with facilities of cashless transaction.

Cyclone Vardah warning signal hoisted, likely to hit land today
Cyclone Warning Signal No.8 was today hoisted in Puducherry and Karaikal ports as cyclone Vardah is expected to hit land today. Though the cyclone moving north westerly direction is likely cross land in south Andhra Coast, Met office has forecast rains and wind reaching a speed of 55km per hour in Puducherry Coast. Fishermen were asked to keep off the sea.

Andhra Pradesh CM launches website of APEDB 
Andhra Pradesh CM launches website of state Economic Development Board (AP-EDB) yesterday in Vijayawda. The website 'apedb.gov.in' is aimed at providing a repository of knowledge on investing in Andhra Pradesh, policies of various sectors and also gives the investor the various investment opportunities the state has to offer. 

MP CM launches Narmada Seva Yatra today
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched Narmada Seva Yatra at Amarkantak today. The five months long Yatra aims at turning the Narmada river pollution free and unceasing river. Mr Chouhan performed religious rituals before kick-starting the campaign. He also went to ashrams of religious leaders to invite them to join the Yatra. The Narmada Sewa Yatra will create awareness about the conservation of the river. It will cover more than 1900 kilometres in 16 districts. 

Madhya Pradesh: First crop insurance claim distribution programme took place on December 10,2016
Country's biggest and first ever crop insurance claim distribution programme of Indian history took place in Madhya Pradesh yesterday. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the programme to distribute Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojna claim worth 4 thousand 416 crore rupees to 20 lakh 46 thousand farmers of the state from Ujjain district.

Rs 4.27 lakh crore notes issued after demonetisation: RBI
The RBI has said that currency notes worth over Rs 4.27 lakh crore have been issued to public through banks and ATMs following the demonetisation of old high value bills. The Bank also said that it "will shortly" issue Rs 500 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, without any inset letter, bearing signature of Governor Urjit R Patel. 

RBI asks banks to upload KYC with central registry from Jan 1
Reserve Bank has directed all Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) to upload the Know Your Customer or KYC data pertaining to new individual accounts opened on or after January 1, with Central KYC Records Registry. Besides, it has been decided to allow One Time Pin (OTP) based e-KYC subject to certain restrictions.

Virat Kohli becomes first Indian captain to hit three double centuries
In Cricket, Virat Kohli today became the first Indian captain to score three double centuries in Tests. Kohli amassed his third double ton - all coming this year - as India consolidated their position in the fourth Test against England in Mumbai. Replying to England's first innings score of 400, India made 631. The hosts have a first innings lead of 231 runs.

J&K:CM Mehbooba Mufti announces setting up of Water Sports Training School
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti announced the setting up of a Water Sports Training School in Srinagar today. Inaugurating a water sports festival in Srinagar this morning, the Chief Minister hoped that with the setting up of the school the adventure and sports qualities among youth would be harnessed. 

Chinese swimmer Chen Xinyi banned for 2 years for doping at Rio Olympics
Chinese swimmer Chen Xinyi has been banned for two years after failing a drug test at the Rio Olympics. This was announced by sport's governing body (FINA). Chen finished fourth in the women's 100 metres butterfly at Rio but did not start in the 50m freestyle heats after media reported she had tested positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide.
