காவிரி நடுவர் மன்றத்தின் புதிய தலைவராக உச்ச நீதிமன்ற நீதிபதி அபய் மனோகர் சாப்ரே நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். இது தொடர்பாக உச்ச நீதிமன்ற நீதிபதியாக டி.எஸ்.தாக்குர் இருந்த போது மத்திய அரசுக்கு செய்த பரிந்துரை கவனிக்கப்படாமல் இருந்தது. இந்நிலையில், டி.எஸ்.தாக்குரின் பரிந்துரையை மீண்டும் தனது தரப்பு பரிந்துரையாக தற்போதைய தலைமை நீதிபதி ஜே.எஸ்.கேஹர் மத்திய அரசுக்கு முன்மொழிந்தார். இதை ஏற்று, நீதிபதி ஏ.எம்.சாப்ரேவை காவிரி நடுவர் மன்றத்தின் புதிய தலைவராக நியமிக்கும் அறிவிக்கையை மத்திய நீர் வளத் துறை அமைச்சகம் கடந்த 16-ஆம் தேதி வெளியிட்டது. இந்த அறிவிக்கையை ஊடகங்களிடம் மத்திய அரசு திங்கள்கிழமை பகிர்ந்து கொண்டது. இதையடுத்து, உச்ச நீதிமன்ற நீதிபதி பணியில் இருந்து விடுவிக்கப்பட்டு விரைவில் காவிரி நடுவர் மன்றத்தின் தலைவர் பொறுப்பை நீதிபதி ஏ.எம்.சாப்ரே ஏற்றுக் கொள்வார் என்று மத்திய நீர் வளத் துறை அமைச்சக வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்தன.

விண்வெளி நிலையத்தை உருவாக்கும் திறன் இந்தியாவிடம் உள்ளது என்று இந்திய விண்வெளி ஆய்வு அமைப்பின் (இஸ்ரோ) தலைவர் ஏ.எஸ்.கிரண்குமார் தெரிவித்தார். அண்மையில் ஒரே ராக்கெட் மூலம் 104 செயற்கைக்கோள்களை விண்ணில் செலுத்தி, அவை அனைத்தையும் வெற்றிகரமாக நிலைநிறுத்தி இஸ்ரோ உலக சாதனை படைத்தது. ஒரு விண்வெளி நிலையத்தை அமைப்பதற்கான அனைத்துத் திறன்களும் நம்மிடம் உள்ளன. அவ்வாறு அந்த நிலையத்தை அமைப்பது என்ற முடிவை அரசு எடுத்தால் நாங்கள் அதற்கான பணிகளில் இறங்குவோம் என்றார் ஏ.எஸ்.கிரண்குமார் தெரிவித்தார்.

இராக்கில் உள்ள எண்ணெய் வளத்தைக் கைப்பற்றும் உத்தேசம் அமெரிக்காவுக்கு இல்லை என்று அமெரிக்க பாதுகாப்புத் துறை அமைச்சர் ஜேம்ஸ் மேட்டிஸ் திங்கள்கிழமை தெரிவித்தார். ஜெர்மனியில் சர்வதேச பாதுகாப்புத் துறை மாநாட்டில் கலந்து கொண்ட பிறகு, இராக் நாட்டுக்கு திடீர் பயணம் மேற்கொண்டார்.

முன்னதாக தலைவர் பொறுப்பிலிருந்து சைரஸ் மிஸ்திரி கடந்த ஆண்டு நீக்கப்பட்டார். இதையடுத்து, டாடா கன்சல்டன்ஸி நிறுவனத்தில் தலைமைப் பொறுப்பில் இருந்த என்.சந்திரசேகரன் (54) புதிய தலைவராக கடந்த ஜனவரி மாதம் 12-ஆம் தேதி தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டார். இந்நிலையில், அவர் தலைவராக தற்போது பொறுப்பேற்கிறார்.

நியூ இந்தியா அஷ்யூரன்ஸ்: புதிய மருத்துவக் காப்பீடு அறிமுகம்

அரசு காப்பீட்டு நிறுவனமான நியூ இந்தியா அஷ்யூரன்ஸ் பிரீமியர் மெடிக்ளெய்ம் என்ற புதிய மருத்துவக் காப்பீட்டை திங்கள்கிழமை அறிமுகம் செய்தது. சென்னையில் அந்நிறுவனத்தின் தலைவரும் நிர்வாக இயக்குநருமான ஜி.ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் புதிய மருத்துவக் காப்பீட்டுத் திட்டம் குறித்து செய்தியாளர்களிடம் கூறியதாவது: "பிரீமியர் மெடிக்ளெய்ம்' என்ற புதிய மருத்துவக் காப்பீட்டை தனி நபர் அல்லது குடும்பத்தினர் எடுத்துப் பயன் அடையலாம். குறைந்தபட்சம் ரூ.15 லட்சம் முதல் அதிகபட்சமாக ரூ.1 கோடி வரையில் மருத்துவக் காப்பீடு செய்யலாம்; 18 வயது முதல் 65 வயது வரை உள்ளோர் இந்த மருத்துவக் காப்பீட்டை எடுத்துப் பயன் பெறலாம். 3 மாத குழந்தை முதல் 18 வயதுக்குட்பட்டோர் பெற்றோருடன் இணைந்தும், புதிதாக பிறந்த குழந்தை - தாய் இணைந்து இந்தப் புதிய மருத்துவக் காப்பீட்டை எடுத்துப் பயன் பெறலாம்.

ரயில்வேக்கு சொந்தமான 3 பொதுத் துறை நிறுவனங்களை பட்டியலிட ஆயத்தம்

ரயில்வே துறைக்கு சொந்தமான மூன்று பொதுத் துறை நிறுவனங்களை பங்குச் சந்தையில் பட்டியலிடுவதற்கான நடைமுறைகளை மத்திய நிதி அமைச்சகம் திங்கள்கிழமை (20.02.2017) தொடங்கியது.

சர்வதேச கிரிக்கெட் போட்டிகளில் இருந்து சாகித் அப்ரிடி ஓய்வு

பாகிஸ்தான் ஆல் ரவுண்டரான சாகித் அப்ரிடி(36) சர்வதேச கிரிக்கெட் போட்டிகளில் இருந்து ஓய்வு பெறுவதாக அறிவித்துள்ளார். டெஸ்ட் போட்டிகளில் இருந்து கடந்த 2010-இல் ஓய்வு பெற்றுவிட்டார். இதனை தொடர்ந்து ஒரு நாள் போட்டிகளிலிருந்து 2015-ஆம் ஆண்டு ஓய்வு பெற்றார். கடந்த ஆண்டு டி20 போட்டிகளின் கேப்டன் பதவியிலிருந்து விலகியிருந்தார். இந்நிலையில் தனது 21 வருட சர்வதேச கிரிக்கெட் பயணத்தை முடித்து கொள்வதாக அவர் அறிவித்தார்.

10-ஆவது ஐபிஎல் சீசனுக்காக நடைபெறும் இந்த ஏலத்தில் 350-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட வீரர்கள் பங்கேற்கிறார்கள். இதிலிருந்து அனைத்து அணிகளும் சேர்ந்து அதிகபட்சம் 76 வீரர்களை வாங்க முடியும். ஒவ்வொரு அணியும் அதிகபட்சமாக 27 வீரர்களை வைத்துக் கொள்ளலாம். இங்கிலாந்து ஆல்ரவுண்டர் ஸ்டோக்ஸை ரூ. 14.5 கோடிக்கு ஏலத்துக்கு எடுத்துள்ளது புணே அணி. அதேபோல மார்கனை ரூ. 2 கோடிக்கு பஞ்சாப்பும் கூரே ஆண்டர்சனை ரூ. 1 கோடிக்கு தில்லியும் பவன் நெகியை ரூ. 1 கோடிக்கு பெங்களூரும் ஏஞ்சலோ மேத்யூஸை ரூ. 2 கோடிக்கு தில்லியும் ஏலத்தில் தேர்வு செய்துள்ளன.

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar reached Colombo last evening on a three-day visit, during which he will meet Sri Lanka's top leadership and explore possibilities for bilateral cooperation.Mr Jaishankar is scheduled to meet Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and other Sri Lankan leaders tomorrow. A wide range of bilateral issues will come up for discussions during the meetings and will carry forward the close exchanges with Sri Lanka. 

India needs ever-green revolution to increase productivity in perpetuity: Sanjay Deshmukh

Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai Dr. Sanjay Deshmukh has said that India needs an ever-green revolution leading to an increase in productivity in perpetuity without ecological harm. He was speaking at the Valedictory function of 8th Indian youth Science Congress in Mumbai on Saturday. Dr. Deshmukh said that eternal vigilance is essential for safeguarding country’s food security. 

India sanctioned $340 million to Nepal for development programmes

India has sanctioned a soft loan of 340 million US dollar to Nepal for various infrastructure development programmes. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae handed over the approval papers to Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister of Nepal Shri Ramesh Lekhak in the presence of Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu. Under this programme Mahalaki bridge and 15 roads will be constructed in various parts of Nepal. 

ASEAN, India to commemorate the 25 years of relationship

An inter-ministerial meeting between telecom ministers of ASEAN countries and India will be held in New Delhi tomorrow to commemorate the 25th year of ASEAN India relations. Minister of State for Communications, Manoj Sinha will lead the discussions from the Indian side. Telecom ministers, senior government officials and industry leaders from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos PDR, Indonesia and Bhutan will take part in the meeting. Telecom exports from India will be the focus of ASEAN-India Digital Partnership. Government has expressed interest to partner with ASEAN countries in enabling Digital Connectivity between India and ASEAN region and also for enabling broadband within ASEAN countries.

Coal imports declines by 21.7% to 14.31 million tonnes in January

Coal imports declined by 21.7 per cent to 14.31 million tonnes last month on the back of sufficient availability of domestic fuel. Imports in January 2017 stood at 14.31 million tonnes against 18.28 million tonnes in same month last year, according to mjunction services, an online procurement and sales platform floated jointly by SAIL and Tata Steel.

Agri Ministry projects 6% fall in onion output this year

Agriculture Ministry yesterday projected six per cent fall in onion output at 197 lakh tonnes this year. The Ministry in the first advance estimates of production of horticulture crops for 2016-17 said, the output is expected to be down due to fall in cropped area. However, the estimated production is 5 per cent higher, as compared to the last 5 year’s average. The overall horticulture production during the crop year is estimated to be around 287 million tonnes, marginally higher as compared to last year.

India win silver at Asian Women's Rugby Sevens Trophy

The Indian Women's team today won a silver at the Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy tournament at Vientiane, Laos. A total of seven countries from across Asia including South Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, India and hosts Laos vied for top honours in the tournament. All the seven teams played on a Round Robin basis. 

Sandeep Kumar breaks his own national record in 50km race walk

Sandeep Kumar of Haryana won the gruelling men's 50 kilometre event of the National Race Walking Championships in New Delhi today. Sandeep smashed his own national record, clocking three hours, 55 minutes and 59.05 seconds. With his brilliannt performance, he also qualified for London World Championships in August. His earlier national record was 3 hour, 56 minutes and 22 seconds, which he clocked in the IAAF World Race Walking Cup at Taicang, China in May 2014. 

World Women's Chess Championship: Dronavalli Harika & Padmini Rout created history

Grandmaster Dronavalli Harika and International Master Padmini Rout created history by winning the tiebreaks of the second round of World Women's Chess Championship in Tehran yesterday (18.02.2017).

8th Indian Youth Science Congress in Mumbai (16-18 February 2017)

The eighth edition of the Indian Youth Science Congress (IYSC) will be hosted by Mumbai University from February 16 to 18 at Maharashtra. The conference is an annual event that provides an opportunity for young researchers to present their work. This year the theme is “Food for All in the Anthropocene Era”, that focuses on food security in the Climate Change context.The 8th edition is jointly organized by University of Mumbai, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, SRM University and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development. The event is open to students and researchers in the fields of Genetic Resources & Climate Change, Carbon Sinks, Early Warning Signals, Natural Resource Management and Traditional Wisdom.Young students and researchers are invited to submit their solutions using science and technology.

Participation is invited from young research scholars and students (B.Tech / M.Sc. / M.Tech / Research Fellows / Post Doc) to present their work. The sessions will be grouped into four Global Sustainable Development Goals. Participants are requested to submit abstracts of their papers, in any of these areas.Students and scholars can also register as observers without submitting any abstract.
