Goa has the highest proportion of both bilinguals and trilinguals. Thus, over half the illiterate population is bilingual in Goa. This goes up to 97.5% for Goans who have completed graduation or higher degrees.
Among southern states, Kerala is the least multilingual and Karnataka has the highest proportion of those speaking more than one language, no matter what the level of education.
