Government to set up 32 new seismological observatories
Government will set up 32 new seismological observatories by the year end to boost information gathering capability on earthquakes.At present 84 such observatiories are functional in the country.
  • 5 observatories will be installed in Uttar Pradesh
  • 4 each in Bihar and Haryana, 
  • 3 each in Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, 
  • 2 each in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh
  • 1 each in Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Lakshadweep. 
  • Next year, the number of observatories will be increased to 150.

Virtual museums to be set up in 50 places across country: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said virtual museums would be set up at 50 places in the country to highlight the significant role of the tribals in the freedom struggle.

Nepal, China hold first-ever joint military exercises
Nepal and China today began their first-ever joint military exercise with a special focus on combating terror. Nepal Army said, the 10-day-long military drill "Sagarmatha Friendship 2017" that will last till April 25 is being organised by the two countries as part of their preparedness against terrorism that has posed as a serious security threat globally. Sagarmatha is the Nepali name of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.

Turban Day celebrated at Times Square in US
In the US, the iconic Times Square was seeped in the colours and tradition of the Sikh culture as members of the community tied turbans to thousands of New Yorkers and tourists. Non-profit group 'The Sikhs of New York' organised the 'Turban Day' at Times Square yesterday (15.04.2017)

World's oldest person dies at age 117
The world's oldest person has died at age 117 yesterday  (15.04.2017) in her home in Verbania, a town on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. Emma Morano was born on November 29th, 1899. She was also believed to have been the last surviving person in the world who was born in the 1800s.

Computer pioneer Robert W. Taylor dies at 85 in California
Robert W Taylor, who was instrumental in creating the internet and the modern personal computer, has died in California. He was 85. Taylor was suffering from Parkinson's disease and died at his home on Thursday. In 1966, when Mr Taylor worked for the Pentagon, he oversaw the creation of a single computer communications network called Arpanet, which linked researchers around the country and later evolved into the internet.

Gayatri Pullela wins twin crown at Pembangunan Jaya Raya Junior Grand Prix
National Badminton coach Pullela Gopichand's daughter Gayatri Pullela has bagged both the singles and doubles crown at the Pembangunan Jaya Raya Junior Grand Prix in Jakarta.

Pankaj Advani beats Sourav Kothari to win Asian Billiards Championship title
Sixteen-time world champion Pankaj Advani today won his sixth Asian Billiards title and seventh overall Asian championship. The ace cueist defeated his compatriot Sourav Kothari 6-3 in an entertaining final of the Asian Billiards Championship in Chandigarh.
