  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the atmosphere in the country is towards cleanliness. Inaugurating India Sanitation Conference, INDOSAN in New Delhi, Mr Modi said if people of the nation decide not to pollute their surroundings, our society and eventually our country will be cleaned. 

India-US military relationship is closest ever, says Ashton Carter
  • US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter has said, India-US military relationship is the closest it has been ever and the two countries are exercising together by air, land and sea for the first time. In his remarks aboard the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego, he said the two great democracies have done a strategic and technological handshake. Carter said the US-India Defence Technology and Trade Initiative grasps hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India campaign, helping both countries move toward more diverse defence co-development and co-production of weapons systems

Vice President Hamid Ansari to address National Assembly of Mali today
  • Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari will address the National Assembly of Mali in capital Bamako today and reports that Mr Ansari will also call on President Ibrahim Keita today before leaving for home in the evening. 

We will welcome cash & other help from India, says Baloch leader
  • A prominent leader of a major armed group fighting for independence in Pakistan's Balochistan has said he would welcome cash and other help from India. In his first video interview in five years, Allah Nazar Baloch, head of the Balochistan Liberation Front, BLF, also pledged further attacks on a Chinese economic corridor, parts of which run through the resource-rich province, reports a news channel. The planned 46 billion dollars trade route is expected to link western China with Pakistan's Arabian Sea via a network of roads, railways and energy pipelines.

West Bengal: Mahalaya observe today, high security alert in state
  • Today is Mahalaya, a day of chanting the Chandi Paath to mark the advent of Durga puja in a week's time. From the wee hours of the morning, people all over West Bengal are throning at holy rivers. Male members of the family are offering holy waters to the spirits of their ancestors.

India embarking on significant reforms & will grow more than 7%: IMF
  • International Monetary Fund, IMF, has said India is embarking on significant reforms and will grow at more than 7 per cent. Speaking at an event in United States, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said, China is rightly re-balancing its economy, albeit slower growing economic model but it will continue to grow at a robust rate of about 6 per cent. 

India moves up 16 spots to 39th rank in Global Competitiveness Index
  • India has jumped 16 places in Global Competitiveness Index, GCI 2016-17 released by the World Economic Forum. For the second year in a row, India climbed 16 positions to occupy the 39th spot out of 138 countries which were reviewed. Switzerland, Singapore and the US remain as the world's most competitive economies.China ranks 28 in the index. Among the other BRICS nations, Russia is ranked 43rd, South Africa is at 47 and Brazil at 81. In the report, India showed biggest improvement in rankings as its competitiveness improved on several fronts including efficiency in goods market, business sophistication and innovation.

World Bank agrees to name Jim Yong Kim to 2nd term as President
  • The board of the World Bank has unanimously agreed to name Jim Yong Kim to a second term as President. Kim had been the only candidate in a process. In a statement announcing the decision, the Bank's board offered a strong endorsement of Kim's record, including setting the goal of eliminating extreme global poverty by 2030.

SEBI Chairman stresses on need to form BRICS Nations Bond Markets
  • SEBI Chairman U K Sinha today stressed on the need to form BRICS Nations Bond Markets in the lines of BRICS Development Bank. He was addressing a one-day BRICS Seminar that began in Mumbai this morning. Mr. Sinha noted that a lot of positive developments have happened in the financial sector in the last 2 years and hoped that there is a scope for further deepening of Indian corporate bond market.  

Govt announces Rs. 90 lakh cash reward for Rio Paralympics winners
  • The government announced a total cash reward of 90 lakh Rupees for the medal winners of Rio Paralympics. According to an official statement, Gold medal winners, paralympic high jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu and Javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia will be rewarded with 30 lakh Rupees each. Deepa Malik, who won a silver medal in shotput, will be rewarded 20 lakh Rupees and high jumper Varun Singh Bhati, who won a bronze medal at the Rio games, will be given 10 lakh Rupees.The cash reward will be given by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot under the Awareness Generation and Publicity (AGP) scheme. 

Indian women's kabaddi team wins gold in Asian Beach Games
  • India bagged their first gold medal at the 5th Asian Beach Games with the women's beach kabaddi team winning the title for the record fifth time in succession in Danang, Vietnam. Indian beat Thailand 41-31 in a hard-fought summit clash at Bien Dong Park. The Indian women's kabaddi team had been winning the gold since the inception of the biennial Games in 2008.

Official emblem for 2017 Fifa U-17 World Cup to held in India unveiled
  • The Local Organising Committee of the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 (LOC) unveiled the official emblem for the world cup at Margao, Goa yesterday. The ceremony was attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and Chairman of the LOC and All India Football Federation (AIFF) Praful Patel.

R Ashwin moves to 2nd place in latest ICC test bowler rankings
  • India off-spinner R Ashwin today moved to second place in the latest ICC test bowler rankings. Ashwin's match haul of 10 for 225, that helped India notch a 197-run victory in the first Test in Kanpur, saw him overtake England's James Anderson by one point. Ashwin is now within seven points of number-one ranked Dale Steyn of South Africa, who leads the Rankings for Test Bowlers with 878 points.

"India has got all legal, internationally accepted right to make a response to any attack on her sovereignty and her soil," Iqbal Chowdhury, Advisor to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said.

  • Indian Army conducted surgical strikes+ on terror launch pads at the LoC on Wednesday night, the DGMO said on Thursday in a press briefing. Surgical strikes+ were based on specific intelligence input of terror groups ready to infiltrate+ into India and carry out terror attacks.Seven terror launch pads were targeted+ across the LoC by special forces of the Indian Army during the 'surgical strike'.
Uma Bharti-chaired Karnataka-TN meeting on Cauvery dispute inconclusive
  • NEW DELHI: A Karnataka-Tamil Nadu meeting chaired by Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on Thursday was inconclusive, with both states refusing to budge from their respective stands on the Cauvery water sharing issue. Bharti said both states had been asked to jointly propose a solution to the Supreme Court, and that she would be willing to participate in an indefinite hunger strike if tensions rose again at the Karnataka-TN border.

Indian Army conducted surgical strikes last night across Line of Control
  • Indian Army conducted surgical strikes last night on terror launch pads across the Line of Control. Speaking to media today, Director General of Military Operations Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh said, the motive of the operation was to hit out at the terrorists who were planning to infiltrate into the Indian territory. Lt General Singh informed that significant casualty was caused to terrorists during the operation.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in New Delhi today on the situation along the Line of Control. The CCS is the apex decision-making body of the government on all issues pertaining to national security. Finance minister Arun Jaitley, Home minister Rajnath Singh, Defence minister Manohar Parrikar, Army chief Dalbir Singh, Home secretary Rajiv Mehrshi and Foregin secretary S Jaishankar attended the meeting.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi's review meeting about the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to Pakistan has been postponed. The decision to review the MFN came in the wake of the Uri terror attack over which India is weighing options to respond. 
Centre to launch Progress Panchayat for all round development & empowerment of minorities
  • Centre will launch Progress Panchayat for minorities today to reach out to the minority communities and publicize the various welfare measures taken by the NDA government for their betterment. Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi will kickstart the programme from Mewat region of Haryana. The programme will be organized in 100 places across the country in the coming days where Union Ministers will interact with people about the several schemes. 
EC directs States to transfer officers completed 3 yrs to ensure free assembly elections
  • The Election Commission has directed to transfer all officers who have completed three years in a district to ensure a free and fair assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur next year. The commission in an order said that no officer connected with elections, directly or indirectly, should be allowed to continue in the present district of posting if she or he is posted in home district or home district of spouse and has completed three years in that district.
Defence Acquisition Council clears proposals worth Rs 1,900 cr
  • The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has cleared proposals worth 1,900 crore rupees, including for an electronic warfare system for low intensity conflict in Jammu and Kashmir. An official said, the electronic warfare system is worth 330 crore rupees. The council, chaired by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, yesterday also cleared a proposal to buy 405 crore rupees worth of anti-tank guided missiles for training purpose of the army
US: Congress votes to override Barack Obama's veto on 9/11 bill
  • US President Barack Obama says the congressional override of his veto on a bill allowing 9/11 lawsuits against Saudi Arabia sets a dangerous precedent. US Congress had voted yesterday to override President Barack Obama's veto of a bill allowing families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabian officials. In the first veto override of his eight year presidency, the Senate voted 97-1 and the House of Representatives 348-77, turning the bill into a law.
US National Security Advisor condemns Uri terrorist attack
  • US National Security Advisor Susan Rice called her Indian counterpart Ajit Doval and condemned the Uri terrorist attack saying the White House expects Pakistan to take effective action to combat and delegitimise UN-designated terrorist groups. Spokesperson of National Security Council Ned Price said that Ambassador Rice reiterated our expectation that Pakistan take effective action to combat and delegitimise United Nations-designated terrorist individuals and entities, including Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, Jaish-e-Muhammad, and their affiliates.
US & Vietnam navies begin 7th annual NEA in Da Nang
  • The US and Vietnamese navies have begun the 7th annual Naval Engagement Activity NEA, Vietnam 2016 at Tien Sa Port in Da Nang. The US Navy said in a press release yesterday that the exercise will focus on non-combatant events and include seminars in military medicine and maritime law as well as subject matter expert exchanges in navigation, shipboard medicine and damage control.

  • Chief minister J Jayalalithaa will inaugurate two elevated metro rail lines ­ a nine-kilometre line from Little Mount to the airport and a less than one kilometre line from Alandur to St Thomas Mount ­ on Wednesday . With this, the entire 21km elevated section of the 45km phase-one of metro rail will become operational.

Government to set up inter ministerial task force to exploit full potential of Indus, Chenab, Jhelum as per Indus Water Treaty
  • The Government will soon set up an inter ministerial task force to exploit the full potential of the rivers Indus, Chenab, Jhelum as per the Indus Water Treaty. Official sources said, this was decided today at a high level meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take stock of the treaty in the wake of sustained cross border attacks including Uri terror strike.Prime Minister said blood and water cannot flow together. Sources said during the meeting, it was decided to expedite construction on Pakal Dul , Sawalkot and Bursar Dams on Chenab river. The country will also review construction on Tulbul navigation project in Kashmir valley on which work was unilaterally suspended by India in 1987.Under the treaty, which was signed by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan President Ayub Khan in 1960, water of six rivers - Beas, Ravi, Sutlej, Indus, Chenab and Jhelum - were to be shared between the two countries. The Commission has held 112 meetings so far and the last meeting was held nearly six month back.
President to embark on three-day visit to Uttarakhand today
  • President Parnab Mukharjee is arriving Dehradun today on his three day visit to Uttarakhand.During his stay the President will inaugurate recently renovated Ashiyana, Bhawan at President bodyguard estate and will lay foundation stone of 12 residential unit of President Secretariat in Dehradun. 
CBDT extends working hours for Income Tax declaration scheme on 30th September
  • Central Board of Direct Taxes- CBDT has extended working hours to receive declarations of undisclosed income and assets under Income Declaration Scheme (IDS) until midnight of September 30th. The IDS came into effect from 1 st June, 2016. It provides an opportunity to persons who have not paid full taxes in the past to declare their undisclosed income and assets
New evidence of water plumes on Jupiter's moon Europa
  • The US space agency NASA says that more evidence of possible water plumes erupting from the surface of Jupiter's icy moon Europa has been spotted.The latest finding has given scientists fresh hope that a robotic spacecraft could one day fly past these potential plumes and learn about their contents without having to drill miles deep into the moon's icy shell. Using ultraviolet images taken by Hubble, a space telescope that was launched in 1990, the potential plumes are seen around the southern edge of Europa and appear as dark fingers or patches of possible absorption. They were spotted over the course of 15 months in 2014 when scientists observed Europa passing in front of Jupiter.

However, only five points separate her from her estranged partner Martina Hingis, who has collected 9,725 points.

  • India have added another medal in the 5th Asian Beach Games. On the second day of competition at Da Nang in Vietnam today, Harish Banghel won a silver in the men's middleweight Muay Thai event. 
Sathiyan Gnanasekaran wins Belgium Open
  • Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has become only the second Indian table tennis player to win an ITTF event. At De Haan in Belgium, he clinched the men's singles title of the Belgium Open by defeating local player Nuytinck Cedric. Achanta Sharath Kamal is the first Indian to win an ITTF event in 2012. Sathiyan, a 24-year-old from Chennai, made several upsets, starting in the second round when he beat world number 103 Jon Persson.

ISRO successfully launches weather satellite SCATSAT-1
  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its satellite SCATSAT-1 for ocean and weather related studies from Sriharikota this morning. Carrying the 377 kg SCATSAT-1 and seven other satellites, India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C35, lifted off from ISRO's first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 9.12 AM today (26.09.2016).This was the first mission of PSLV in which it launched its payloads into two different orbits. The co-passenger satellites were from the US, Canada and Algeria besides from Indian Universities. This is the 37th flight of the PSLV and the 15th journey in its extended version with solid strap on motors to give it the required additional thrust. This month, this is the second launch for the ISRO.
Sushma Swaraj to address UN General Assembly today
  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will address the UN General Assembly in New York today. Mrs Swaraj is expected to give a stinging response to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's UNGA speech.Outlining India's focus for the UN General Assembly session, New Delhi's envoy to the UN Syed Akbaruddin said terrorism is the primary concern for India as well as for nations across the world. He listed reform of the UN Security Council, sustainable development, climate change and peacekeeping as other priorities for India in the current UNGA session.
Nirmala Sitharaman to visit Sri Lanka today
  • Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman is visiting Sri Lanka from today in a bid to expand bilateral trade relations between the two countries. She is being accompanied by senior ministry officials along with a business delegation.
PM chairs meeting to review Indus Water Treaty
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a meeting in New Delhi to take stock of Indus Water Treaty. NSA Ajit Doval, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Nripendra Mishra, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, Water Resources Secretary Shashi Sekhar and other senior officials briefed Mr Modi on the 56-year old pact. The treaty signed in 1960 by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and then Pakistan President Ayub Khan, allocates 80 per cent of water from the six-river Indus water system to Pakistan. 
Agriculture Minister inaugurates Krishi Unnati Mela in Mathura
  • Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh inaugurated four days Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Krishi Unnati Mela - 2016 in Mathura today. Speaking on this occasion, Mr Singh said, during last two years, there was drought like situation in the country but in spite of it food grains production was more than 250 million ton during 2015-16. He said, during these years the production of milk was also record high at 160 million ton in the country. He said that the credit of food grains production goes to new agriculture technique and hard work of farmers. 
Govt sets target of toilets in every household by 2019: Tomar
  • Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation Narendra Tomar today said government has set a target of toilets in every household by 2019. Addressing media at launch of media campaign of Swachh Bharat Week featuring actor Amitabh Bachhan and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, the Minister said toilets have been made in every household in 85,000 villages of the country. He said 23 districts are now totally free from open defecation. He expressed happiness on the increasing citizen participation in Swachh Bharat Mission. Swachh Bharat Week is being celebrated from 25th September to 2nd October.

  • Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today gave away Antyodaya Krishi Puruskars to 22 farmers for their contribution in the agriculture sector. They were felicitated during a function at the birth place of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay in Mathura. Azma of Telangana has been awarded for conserving old seeds and setting up community seeds bank. As part of the Centenary Celebrations of Deendayal Upadhaya, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, has instituted Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Krishi Puruskar at national and zonal levels from this year.
UN lauds India's decision to ratify Paris Climate Agreement
  • UN chief, Ban Ki-moon, today lauded India for its swift action over the decision to ratify the Paris pact on climate change. Mr. Ban said he is looking forward to receiving New Delhi's instrument of accession. Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday announced in Kerala that India will ratify the Paris climate deal on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.Earlier this month, the US and China, the world's two largest emitters, formally joined the Paris agreement, which was adopted by 195 parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change last December in Paris.A total of 60 countries so far have deposited their instruments of ratification for the agreement, representing more than 47.5 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
General Conference of IAEA begins in Vienna
  • The 60th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) opens in Vienna today (26.09.2016). During the week-long session, representatives of 168 countries will discuss prospects of developing nuclear energy. The IAEA General Conference is a platform for discussing strategic issues and holding scientific debates.

  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its satellite SCATSAT-1 for ocean and weather related studies from Sriharikota this morning. Carrying the 377 kg SCATSAT-1 and seven other satellites, India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C35, lifted off from ISRO's first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 9.12 AM.
  • This was the first mission of PSLV in which it launched its payloads into two different orbits. The co-passenger satellites were from the US, Canada and Algeria besides from Indian Universities. 
  • ISRO's SCATSAT-1 can generate accurate data on wind patterns over the ocean surface. It is a continuity mission for the Oceansat-2, which has exhausted its operational life. The expected lifespan of SCATSAT-1 is expected to be five years.
  • The seven other co-passengers in today’s mission included three small satellites from Algeria meant for earth observation, remote sensing and technology demonstration, a commercial high resolution imaging micro-satellite of an US agency, the nano-satellite NLS-19 of Canada to experiment on reduction of space debris and two nano-satellites of IIT, Bombay and the PES University, Bengaluru.
  • ISRO Chairman Mr Kirankumar also said the next launch for ISRO is GSAT-18 from French Guyana on October 4th. The next launch within India is in November when Resourcesat-2A will blast off on board PSLV. The most expected GSLV Mark-III launch vehicle capable of lifting heavier communication satellites weighing more than 4 ton is also scheduled to be held by the end of this year, Mr Kiran Kumar informed with today's launch, the PSLV has so far put into orbit 79 foreign satellites belonging to 21 countries and there are more orders at hand, he said.On the South Asia satellite, discussions are going on with the friendly nations, though Pakistan has opted out. It is expected to be launched in six months time
