The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) comprises the Eight countries of South Asia, i.e. Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.The SAARC was established on December 8, 1985, to organise and unite the governments of its Eight original members.

The 13th Saarc Summit in Dhaka in November 2005 had approved Afghanistan’s request for membership and Afghanistan as its eighth member of 14th Summit conference of the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation.
