Read the following passage and answer the questions 72 to 75.

Industrialization, rapid social change and a public discussion on individual’s rights set the stage for the emergence of the first wave of feminism in the 1800s. The country was expanding, industrialization was changing how Americans thought about work and the family, and social reforms were interested in helping the ‘unfortunate” in society. Many women were drawn to issues of social reform and, despite a lack of public roles, rights and responsibilities, were instrumental in organizing and participating in the abolition movement to end slavery. In 1837, women organized the first Anti-slavery convention of American Women without the assistance of men. Although women such as Sarah and Angelina Grimke were active participants in the movement, they were largely denied the right to speak on the issues at conventions and were often attacked in public when they attempted to address the wrong of slavery. This unequal treatment and silencing helped women connect their lack of individual rights to the issue of slavery and led to the organizing of the first women’s rights convention. Organized by the abolitionist Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the Seneca Falls Women’s Rights Convention held on 14 July, 1848, focused on multiple issues including education rights, property reforms and women’s restricted roles within the family. The convention resulted in a Declaration of sentiments and a series of resolutions. The resolutions included the rights of women to determine their own lives, seek employment enjoy equality within marriage and find freedom from oppressive legal and religious dictates. After much deliberation the attendees also decided to address the controversial issues of women’s suffrage. It is a misconception that the first wave of U.S. feminism was concerned only with obtaining women’s right to vote. Early feminists addressed a variety of women’s concerns including fair custody arrangements, the right to own property as an individual after marriage, and freedom from restricted dress. The campaign to change women’s dress was called the Bloomer Movement after Amelia Bloomer who advocated a more rational’ dress in her women’s rights journal of the 1850s.
