1. The first clinical trial to inject fetal stem cells into babies still in the womb to lessen the symptoms of incurable brittle bone disease will begin in January next year. The trial will be led by Swe den's Karolinska Institute and in the UK by Great Ormond Street Hospital and the stem cells will come from terminated pregnancies. Officially called osteogenesis imperfecta, brittle bone disease affects around one in every 25,000 births.
2. In a first, a block exclusively to house transgenders is coming up in a high security prison in Thrissur in an effort to protect their privacy and human rights.The decision comes close on the heels of the Supreme Court recognising them as the third gender. The Kerala government is also working on a Transgender Bill to protect the rights of the TGs.

4. Lucknow The number of Gangetic dolphins has increased in the Ganga and its tributaries. The dolphin census 2015 has counted 1,263 dolphins in Uttar Pradesh against the 671 in 2012.
5. The Supreme Court on Monday imposed an `Environment Compensation Charge' (ECC) on commercial vehicles entering Delhi, in addition to the toll tax, from November 1 for four months on a trial basis, in a bid to check high pollution levels in the city.
